Troca Brahma Brasilian / UK music festival was awesome!!! Liverpool Samba School played people into the venue which was spread over the courtyards and buildings of our regular practise space, the New Picket.
The atmosphere was amazing and the turn out was great, and we managed to get backstage and meet some ace people, even sneaking off Ben Westbeech’s trademark hat to pose in a samba headdress -yay! I thought it was a good look for him.
Highlights had to be seeing Os Mutantes live - such a treat to hear those songs like ‘Desculpe Baby’, and ‘Ando Meio Desligado’ live - longstanding favourites of mine.
Tony Da Gatorra had a cult following , (I’m a new recruit!) inspiring ‘Paz’ throughout the place.
A new band I have been raving about for some time is Bonde do Role, labelmates with Bonny Prince Billy on Domino Records - go and see them if you get the chance. Marina rocks the nu rave spandex oscillating between cute to quite scary as she belts out lyrics favela style over the electro baile funk and cavorts with Paulinho on stage. Super cool chick (yes she is- we chatted to her) Amanda Blank rapping over the top and Radioclit’s remixing, chucking in bits of tracks from ‘Grease’ even were inspired additions.
The festival went on over 2 days, happifying the crowds with a taste of Brasilian summer.See flickr for more pics
